Community Support Network, Fiji

About CSN

The Community Support Network (CSN) is a non-government organisation (NGO) established in 2009. We are based in Suva and work on the three main islands of Fiji: Viti Levu, Vanua Levu and Taveuni.

Outside of towns and cities, Fijians live in small communities, villages and settlements. These communities often experience significant hardship, poverty and disadvantage. Our work seeks to address this by empowering people in communities to develop sustainable livelihood projects to generate income and to improve the standards of living that they enjoy.

Our organisation is established and run by Fijians. We work closely with communities on our projects including:

  • developing income generating projects: we train communities in good governance, leadership and business principles to help them implement and run income generating projects
  • empowering women and youths: we empower women and youths to overcome their vulnerability and disadvantage by providing them with a voice and training and encouraging them to participate in decision-making and to influence change
  • refurbishing schools: we work with communities and international volunteers to refurbish schools, encouraging students’ attendance and reinforcing the importance of education
  • building community facilities, including sanitation: we work with communities and international volunteers to build and refurbish community facilities, including installing water tanks, building accessible toilet and shower facilities, constructing walkways and refurbishing community halls
  • providing emergency disaster relief: we provide emergency disaster relief, such as food, water and medical supplies during disasters such as floods and cyclones
  • distributing books to schools: we distribute donated books to schools in remote areas.

We are a registered charity in Fiji under the Charitable Trusts Act (number 872, 4 August 2009).
